Hi, I’m Sarah Rugg and I’ve been running my own Companionship Business since 2007, but it was the 2 years or so preceding this that spurred me into making the move from corporate financial services.

Back then, I was spending a lot of time with my Nan. At that time, she didn’t need personal care and her medical care was minimal, but she was starting to need a little more support. She was still living her life and doing the things she loved, but things were taking a little longer and she was becoming slightly unsteady which was knocking her confidence. Everyone in the family was working full time, or lived out of the area, so I started to look for some outside help. I found out very quickly that the kind of help I wanted for my Nan, wasn’t readily available and that’s when I decided to set up my Companionship Business.

Having started the business alone, we’ve now grown to a team of over 20. Together we support older people in and around Chester (where I live) to maintain their independence.

With an ageing population, there’s huge scope for Companionship Businesses like mine, helping older people maintain their independance right across the UK. And that’s why I developed my FAB-Senior programme.
